Final Essay

What is the most interesting article to people? I think people are
interested in articles that are more related to their country. Actually I have
more interest the event that occurred in Korea, but I think I can realize many
problems through articles of other countries also. So I have found articles of
other countries about problems which Korea also has and tries to solve. Among
them, I chose articles more interesting to me. First, I chose the article about
the strike of metal workers in South Africa from Kang Su Jie’s blog. Second
article is about dangerousness of bicycle road in England. It is from the Boo
Jung Soo. Last, I selected the article about the returning cultural assets in
Kim Jong Su’s blog.
I chose the article “South Africa Metal workers Begin Strike,
Inciting Economic Fears” in Kang Su Jie’s blog because I experienced
inconvenience when railroad-corporation started strike in Korea. According to
the article, metal workers started the strike for wage increase and it would
affect some industries like iron or steel negatively. Kang Su Jie said she
supports the labor union to protect labor’s right but abusing their right is selfish.
I agree with her thought for three reasons. First, unreasonable strike makes
people inconvenient. They have to consider the alternative solution that makes
people feel less inconvenience. Second, sometimes they use their power
politically. The purpose of labor union is to protect their right so they
should not affect politics. Last, the damage of enterprise occur the crisis of
economy. They should consider benefits of both labors and company.
In blog of Boo Jung Soo, he used the article, “Roads ‘too dangerous’
for cyclists BBC poll suggests” and I chose this article because Korea has same
problems of bicycle road lack. According to the article, more than half of
British adults said their bicycle road is dangerous so England would invest money
to improve it. I agree with Boo Jung Soo’s opinion that Korea also has to
invest more money to make safe bicycle road. It is essential to increase people
who use bicycle. The more people ride a bike, if the more safe roads they can
ride are constructed. And it is necessary to protect pedestrians also. If
cyclists use sidewalk with walkers, they can be bumped to pedestrians. Third, although
much money is used for constructing roads, it brings economical benefits to
country in long-term, because bicycles don’t need any energy except people’s
working.
Last, I selected “Sweden returns pre-Incan
funeral shroud to Peru” from Kim Jong Su’s blog because Korea also had lost
cultural assets by other countries before. The article said that Sweden
returned cultural asset, pre-Incan funeral shroud, because it can be more
protected in Peru’s environment or condition. Kim Jong Su thought it can be used
for finding out ancient culture and he wished Korea can get back cultural
properties soon. I agree with Kim Jong Su’s thought. Regaining the assets makes
distortions of history correct. Some countries like China and Japan distort the
history by using stolen cultural properties. And, they stole them by exploiting
the invasion and war. We don’t always admit stolen things as stuffs of thief.
Last, using these stolen properties many countries earn the money as the
tourist industry. These benefits should come back original owners
I introduced the articles that I have been
interested in. First, I mentioned the article about the strike in South Africa
because there was huge strike of workers in train-corporation in the Korea, few
months ago. Second article is about bicycle road. The reason I chose this
article is that Korea also has the lack of bicycle roads problem. Last, Korea
had lost cultural assets by other countries, so I select the article about the
returning cultural assets. I explained each articles by relating to Korean
situation. I think it is important to read other countries’ article to consider
our problems and find solutions. It is good chance to me because I can think
about our problems through these articles
